![]() The whole practice of codenames has become so commonplace for the general public, that Applenow assigns each projct an internal and external code namefor each product it develops. These include theLisa, Macintosh, Pippin, and Newton. ![]() Some code names were so influential that they remainedas the product's official (or common) name. From then on,Apple gave code names to virtually every product before it wasreleased. The projectwas thus named "Sarah" after the daughter of then chiefengineer Wendell Sander (thus starting a long line of computerscode named after daughters of Apple employees). When the AppleIII was being designed by a comittee of people, team membersneeded something to call the project during development. Products have been regularly given code names before their introductionsince the dawn of the commercial PC industry, and it is especiallycommonplace at Apple.
